Wetland Mitras are individuals, groups, volunteer organizations, or self-help groups residing around wetlands within the jurisdiction of the local body. They are ready to willingly volunteer to facilitate preservation and protection under the Wetlands (Conservation & Management) Rules 2017.
Currently, there are 106 Wetland Mitras enrolled with the Conservation Authority of Pallikaranai Marsh Land (CAPML). They are involved in various activities of the Forest Department, including conservation of Pallikaranai Marsh Land, bird census, and improving community livelihoods.
