Location

The marsh is bound on the east by Old Mahabalipuram Road, on the west by Tambaram-Velachery Road, on the north by Velachery village, and on the south by Medavakkam-Karapakkam Road. It is located in Pallikaranai, Sholinganallur, Thuraipakkam, Perungudi, and Perumpakkam villages. It drains about 250 km2 of area through two outlets, viz., Okkiyam Madavu and the Kovalam Creek, and falls into the Bay of Bengal.
